Rivalry and Etiquette within Roman Fever by Edith Wharton

At social gatherings, women are considered master of the family through social activities. Women have strict social etiquette and upper classes must bid. However, a few times a young woman departed from social norms. Like "Roman fever", if the brothers and sisters are not competing with each other, the two women become social friends and compete for the hands of Delphin Slade. As a result of these competitions, young women were driven by confidential issues, and competitors had harmed the competitive reputation in society.
