Richard Wright's 12 million black voices are pictures and textbooks poetically speaking about the story of African-Americans who began to improve when they were brought from Africa to 149 pages. By exchanging a series of texts and pictures, Richard Wright contains the voice of 12 million African Americans and talks about their pain, their fears, the stages they took through and their hopes. In this book, most of the pictures used are from FSA: other farm security offices and other pictures that are not theirs.

Nonfiction "12 million black voices" (originally published in 1941) consists of text written by Richard Wright and more than 100 photos selected from the Farm Security Administration document . It depicts the movement of blacks from the countryside, the southern part of agriculture to urbanized industrial northern to find work and better living. The book contains 80 stories originally recorded by members of federal writers projects including some of Ralph Ellison 's. From the story of Lloyd Green, Ellison borrowed the repeated phrase "in New York but New York is not with me" in a dialogue with Mary Rambo and invisible people.
At the end of the voice of 12 million black people, Wright said: "It is America that we are enduring what we want, as we black people die, Bosmax was destroyed by the defense attorney's voice to the specially proposed distorted vision, the collapse of 'Kua' and other civilizations and 'skyscrapers'. Other people, black people, white people, this is the reason why our future is imminent image.
