Reyna Grande

Reina Grande is the author of the best selling memoir "The Distance Between Us" (Atria, 2012) written about the life before and after the illegal entry from Mexico to the United States. A long-awaited sequel "A Dream Callled Home" (Atria) will be released on October 2, 2018. Her other works include the novel "Across the Hundred Mountains" (Atria, 2006) and "Dance and Butterflies" (Washington Square Press, 2009). You can also use it as a young reader version of Simon & Schuster's Children's Division - Aladdin. Her books are adopted in schools, universities and cities across the country.

Reina won the American Book Award, El Premio As Trang Literature Award, International Latin American Book Award. In 2012, she was nominated for a prestigious national review critic prize, and in 2015 she was awarded the excellent Lewis Rial Award for Chivano / Latin American literature. Reyna is a member of Macondo Writers Seminar founded by Sandra Cisneros. Currently, she teaches creative writing at the writing conference, travels both domestically and abroad, introduces her books, and makes novels during the Mexican-American war.

Reina was born in Iguara, State of Guerrero, Mexico (43 university students were missing in 2014), my father was two years old when I left for America to find a job. Two years later her mother chased her father north and left Reina and her brothers and sisters in Mexico. In 1985, when Reina was 9 years old, she left the Iguara and traveled north. She entered the United States as an undocumented immigrant and then became the first person in her family who graduated from college.

Two years after entering Pasadena City College, Reina received B.A. creative lighting, movies and videos at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She later received M.F.A. Creative Writing from the University of Antioquia.
