In "The Army of Shadows" (2008), Hillel Cohen revisited a typical historical story of Palestinian view before Nakba. Most of the discussion involved many Palestinian group ideas changes during British orders. It may be useful to compare the method of Hillel Cohen's book with the re-evaluation of Ilan Pappe's "Palestinian ethnic cleansing" (2006) and his Israeli historical memory. Pappe focuses on the plan and action to ensure ethnic cleansing in Israel and compares it with the current view of historical rhetoric.

Carton began his story by reviewing the demographics of the Potomac Army. Importantly, he revealed that these soldiers were not all applicants but were forced to join or pay to join the army. In particular, jumpers and other offenders who earn prize money reduced the coalition's morale and caused problems for executives. Volunteers who enlisted in 1861 completed a three-year mission, most of the veterans left the army, but were replaced by thieves, murderers and drunk groups. Carter reexamined the character of Grant and Philipp Sheridan after letting the reader fully understand the type of men serving in the Potomac Army. When the carton moved Grant's movement to the south, he explained each fight very clearly from start to finish. Military movements of the grant, critical issues, strategic decisions are recalled in sharp detail and allow readers imagination to visualize the battle.
