Returning to School

Consider educating families, friends, school staff and health care providers about the outcome of possible long-term and late-stage treatment of your child. In particular, children and other school officials may not know the long-term and late-stage effects of treatment, so please discuss with the teacher about the needs of the child before returning to school.

Work with your child's teacher and healthcare provider and plan a plan that fits his / her needs, featuring:

Baseline test If possible, perform a baseline test prior to treatment and continue comparative testing during and after treatment to determine if a neurocognitive problem or an associated learning disorder has occurred.

Special Accommodation School staff can take measures to help the child return to school, such as completing the assignment of the class and increasing the time to take the exam. Children undergoing adverse effects of cancer treatment are eligible to receive assistance under three different federal laws (the United States Disabled Persons Act, Disabled Personnel Education Law, and Rehabilitation Act).

Long-term plan You can make plans to help children in certain situations, such as transition from secondary to high school or from secondary school to secondary education and adult life.

After Christmas vacation, after crying back to school for ten minutes, my daughter said, "You do not love me."
