Intertek's polymer and plastic resin testing capabilities support troubleshooting expertise, research, prescription, failure analysis, and many other mission-critical projects
Samples were prepared in three different forms: tensile, compressed and sheared samples. The resin used in this study was GRP - 296 normal unsaturated polyester resin. The thickness of the tensile specimen and the shear specimen was selected to 1 mm in consideration of the surface phenomenon of UV deterioration in the polymer, and a thickness of 1 mm was selected, and in order to prevent buckling, the thickness of the compression specimen was set to 3 mm . In order to obtain time-dependent curves of reduced mechanical properties, samples were processed at three time intervals in a UV conditioning chamber. Samples containing these additives were also prepared in order to investigate the effect of ultraviolet absorber (UVA) additives in protecting the radiation resistance of the resin. Hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole (Cheesaw 5411 and Chisorb 944 were compounded and then added to the resin, followed by acid and curing agent) while adding UVA at 0.25 wt% to the resin.
Formaldehyde resin is a comprehensive resin product made of formaldehyde. This product is used in various environments and industries, it is one of the oldest synthetic resins. Plastic resins are made by heating hydrocarbons. Plastic resin is used to make various kinds of products
There are various kinds of resins, and polyester resin is the cheapest resin. However, this resin is very dangerous to use - it releases toxic fumes that may be harmful in contact with the skin. Therefore, when using polyester resin, the user must wear protective gloves and gas mask. Even solvents can produce undetectable VOCs and are very dangerous if breathing. Since odorless gas stays in the air for a long time, the function of using a ventilator is limited. Increasing demand for environmental protection and carbon dioxide emissions creates more environmentally friendly products. After many research and development, painting materials are beginning to appear as eco-friendly ecological resin, and further as trend of bio-resin.
