Research Study: Nurse Practitioners as Staff Leaders for Patient Care

Watts et al. (2009) A qualitative case assessment was conducted to evaluate the benefits of treating chronic diseases using a multidisciplinary team led by nursing practitioners. In this study, we examined co-medical care reservations (SMA) of carers who played a role as team-led chronic disease treatment (diabetes, hypertension, heart failure) patients. A systematic review of the effectiveness of all nurse practitioners conducted in 2011 found that nurse practitioners provide effective and high quality care with similar or superior results as doctors.

In 2010, AANP conducted a study to compare the cost of a nurse practice school and the cost of a medical school. According to the survey, we found that the total tuition fee for preparing primary care nurses is actually less than the one-year medical tuition fee. The nurse practice school is cheaper, but the care provided by the primary care provider is still equivalent to the care provided by the primary care physician.
