Bossa nova (Portuguese: "New Trends") Brazilian pop music. In the late 1950s Samba (Brazilian dance and music) and cool jazz was composed. Music is time divided in 2/4. Composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and guitarist João Gilberto are considered the founder of this style. This was a characteristic of Brazilian culture and related to the social protest movement in the mid-1960s. Musical instruments are diverse, deliberately simple, and are limited to rhythm instruments such as guitar, berimbau, drum, accompaniment of monaural piano. In the vocal passage, the musical background becomes softer, and the singer extends the range of improvisation more. As a dance, the difference between Bossa Nova and Samba is very small, it requires the same subtle body rhythm and two-step movement.
Typical instruments listened to by Bossa Nova's songs are classical guitar, piano, keyboard, acoustic bass and drum. In addition, the important elements of Bossa Nova are usually unnoticed and are not used much for music, or silence. Tom Jobim, father of Bossa Nova, said that "music is the silence between notes." This movement is mainly organized by very young people. Because they chose to express their generation with more optimistic music rather than the pain of songs and lyrics over the past few decades. Bossa Nova brings more sophisticated lyrics related to complex melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and everyday life. To make a more relaxed way of singing, the value of this type of music is interrupted and silenced. Bossa Nova's optimistic and engaging rhythm attracts and influences singers and composers all over the world
