The position of the thrust plate around the edge of the landslide toe block, and their shape and direction of travel, indicates that they are formed by compression of the toe block and movement of the surrounding sand. Therefore, the toe thrust plate can be thought of as a permanently unstable morphological representation of the landslide toe.
