Regional Interdependence

The purpose of this paper is to explain the regional interdependence test model. In short, regional interdependence is the concept that a seemingly unrelated injury in a distant anatomical region may lead to or be related to the patient's major complaint. [1] Current research shows that interdependence among regions is affected not only by other regions of the musculoskeletal system but also by various body systems and regions. [2]

A regionally interdependent examination model allows PT to provide optimal care for patients beyond the traditional, often ambiguous, and sometimes misleading musculoskeletal diagnosis. In many cases, the causes of these diseases may not be as simple as they think. [3] For example, a patient complaining of LBP may actually suffer from hip and knee diseases. Examination of the proximal and distal joints in the same area of ​​reported pain and dysfunction is extremely important for the concept of regional interdependence.
