Reflection on Mask Unit

The second half of the Jarvis Theater course is about masks, how to make masks, and how to act in it. As it combines action and drama, this unit is probably one of the most fun theatrical units. Mask is a very important work of art in many plays and live performances. When using the mask during the performance, you can enhance the mobility by making actors multiple roles or experiencing various individualities. Theater masks are also used to express and strengthen characters and stories, making distances between actors on the stage and characters of stories.

Wrestling masks are most widely used in wrestling in Mexico and Japan. Wrestler masks are usually associated with wrestler characters (for example, wrestlers known as "pandas" can wear a panda face masked mask). Normally wrestlers place masks on the line to counter other wrestler masks, titles, or opponent's hair. In Mexico and Japan, the mask is a traditional symbol overlooked in the United States and Canada. Some bands and performers, especially Slipknot, Mental Creepers, members of Gwar, and guitarist Buckethead were wearing a mask during the performance on stage. Other groups such as Kiss, Alice Cooper and Dimmu Borgir also used facepaint to simulate the effect. Hollywood undead will also wear masks, but in many cases they will be deleted during the performance.

There are three basic types of masks that categorize head and face matching methods. Like an old-fashioned plastic Halloween mask we know well, the mask covers the face. Another form is called a helmet mask. These masks are shaped like a big helmet covering the whole head. The third type, like the summit, is at the top of the head, keeping the face of the wearer visible. Many African masks are highly stylized with surface geometric patterns. Geometric patterns include parallel lines, repeating curves, zigzags and spirals, and even checkered patterns. Some masks are very symmetrical, the side of the face is the same. Others are asymmetrical and designs are different on both sides of the face. Painting color is bold, very contrasting.
