Raymond Carver’s Cathedral and Denis Johnson’s Jesus’ Son

American dreams are generally considered to include healthy families, high salary jobs, and strong houses. Many people dream of it and use every opportunity to achieve it. However, the socio-economic situation in the United States is a barrier to this ideal. Characters living in Raymond Carver Cathedral are blue-collared Americans, and the image of the American dream sky they see on the TV screen every night confuses them and makes them fancy. However, the hero of Dennis Johnson has never heard American dreams and is not committed to it; their lives slipped for alcohol and drug use, the future is cruel.

The cathedral is a short story by Raymond Carver. This story forms a sarcastic situation in which the blind man teaches the foresightful person to "see" truly for the first time. Near the end of the story, Carver drew two characters together in the cathedral's picture as a symbolic nucleus of the story. The narrator found at a very early stage that blinds are not particularly wanted in my house. In most stories, he observed one by one and revealed his shallowness. In the next excerpt, he imagines that a blind wife must feel in her bed of death.

In the story "Royal Cathedral" written by Raymond Carver, it seems that the stereotype of the blind man forms obstacles between the blind and sight. A man in the story is always misunderstood by "blinds" from "movie" (Carver 1). The title "Cathedral" is important as it helps men to imagine the life of Robert. As blind Robert entered his life, it was difficult for men to form a relationship with Robert due to his visual impairment. The man also created a picture of what Robert looks like in his mind and how he acts. This is because this man has never interacted with the blinds and has come up with Robert's preconceived idea.
