Ralph Ellison’s Essay, Battle Royal

In Ralph Ellison's article "The Battle of the Royals," he explained a black boys, cowardly and obedient on white smokers in the southern town. He and the other few blacks rushed in front of the ballroom, where there was a gorgeous blonde seducing them through the naked dance. The black boys, who were blindfolded, held a "battle of the kingdom" which is a free act that they repel each other's sickness. Ellison tells the story of a fight between a young African-American boy and his white society to show inequality that all blacks suffer after slavery abolition. Many struggles of this little boy represent the hardships of the entire black race.
