Racial discrimination in the Chesapeake region The Chesapeake region of the 17th century is a unique community with little racial discrimination. In this community, at the moment property is the main point of the individual's position in society and it is the main definition. Human skin color is not an essential element to becoming a respected and appreciated member of the community. The east coast of Virginia represents a very small fellowship that is not a typical southern ideal during this time and usually gives free blacks who possess property comparable to the surrounding whites give great freedom and respect.
Chesapeake Bay is the center of trade, business and government. The UK brought war to the Chesapeake area in 1813 and 1814. On 4th July 1813, Joshua Barney persuaded the Navy to build 20 barges to protect the Chesapeake Bay. These barges normally harassed the British navy, but turned out to be useless for the whole war process. When Napoleon was defeated in 1814, the UK carried even more ships to the United States. On 24 August of that year, British troops advanced to Washington, DC, the Navy was ready to provide support. British forces burned down the White House, Parliament House, American ship. The entire assembly library was destroyed by fire. If it does not rain that night, more town will burn. President James Madison 's wife, Dolly Madison, received a letter warning a few hours before the attack.
In 1814, the British landed in the Chesapeake Bay area and advanced to Washington. When General William Wendell attacked General Britain Robert Ross at Bradenberg, the United States tried to stop British invasion. Unfortunately, the US military suffered serious damage and the British Army arrived in Washington. The military burned down in the National Assembly building, the Presidential Palace, and furthermore in the suburbs of Washington. Britain continued to invade the United States, including Admiral Cochrane's invasion in Baltimore. When he and his troops invaded the city Ross was killed and it caused a delay in the actions of British troops. Cochran and its troops attacked the unacceptable Fort McHenry although it protected Baltimore's harbor. Due to the lack of success in Cochrane, he and his troops traveled to Jamaica to recover their damaged fleet and repair. In addition, they are planning to break into New Orleans in anticipation of blocking the US from using the Mississippi River.
