What is racism? The definition given in Merriam Webster's dictionary is "to believe that race is the main determinant of human characteristics and abilities, race differences create specific advantages for a particular race I can do it. " Only from the definition, racial discrimination and prejudice can be thought of as a badly false mistake. However, for those who insist that they really do not like other races or groups, the sense of race or prejudice is not considered at all.
Reaction time was used in a simple classification test to measure racial recessive bias (not only white and black faces but also good and bad words). It reveals a positive or negative relationship with the race and has nothing to do with the subject belief. Even if one does not have conscious or obvious racial discrimination it is very common to hide an implicit prejudice; in fact, the black subject also usually shows an implicit anti-black bias.
Since the 1990's, researchers began to develop ways to evaluate potential bias. The most widely used test is an implicit associative test. This allows researchers to measure whether an individual has a more positive relationship with a particular ethnic group. However, the important limitation of this test is that it only works for people over the age of 6. The explanation is too complicated, and young children can not be remembered.
Two methods are used to evaluate the implicit bias. Implicit Associative Test (IAT) is often used to measure implicit bias of an individual. The IAT measures the strength of the association between a concept (eg black, old, gay) and evaluation (eg good or bad) or characteristic (eg exercise, clever or awkward). IAT is based on the observation that if words are already associated in the brain, two words can be quickly placed in the same category. For example, the ratio at which a person can associate "black and white" or "white" with "good" or "b" indicates their potential bias. here
The scholars invented a smart way to test this bias. This is called an implicit association test. In the test, it is consistently shown that most people associate black faces with positive words (such as "good") for a longer time than negative words (such as "bad"). On the white side, the pattern is inverted. The extra time spent is the evidence of the prejudice of a person - the prejudice that people may even not even know about. However, there is another explanation about African American emotions and discrimination denied by Caucasian: apparent hidden racial discrimination. Assuming there is fair general conscious racial discrimination, people are very aware of this racial discrimination, but they will not recognize this racial discrimination - it is certainly not an investigation.
