Purgatory’s Structure

Purgatory organization follows seven deadly sinful arrangements: pride, jealousy, anger, laziness, greedy and waste, bulimia and desire. Virgil said its formation is mainly based on love. As Virgil said, "love must be a seedbed to grow all good deeds, and everyone must guarantee punishment" (Canto 17 103-05). This means that everything that loves sin and good exists. Insufficient love will be punished as a sloth on the terrace

In this lecture, Professor Mazota introduced Purgatory and carefully read Cantos I and II. It describes the topography of Purgatory Mountain, and the moral system it builds is in stark contrast to the moral system of hell. On the one hand, the conflicting choice of Dante of Katho's pagan suicide as a guardian of purgatory entrance triggered arguments of ancient ancient freedom on the one hand and cited Judaism on the other. Kato, refused to be enslaved in the past and the afterlife, is regarded as an expression of the virtue of exilees and is still an example of confession of pre-purgatory including peacefulness of pilgrims.
