PuentesdeDobleVía is part of the Duke University faculty members such as Documentary Research Center, Spanish Course, Latin American and Caribbean Research Center, Latin American / Southern Research Project, DukeEngage on Border / Encuentros de la, etc. Representing Frontera and Latino Community The local organization gathered to find a new way to communicate between Durham and the Latin community of Duke University. Current ongoing initiatives are backed by a large grant from Duke Humanities Writ, such as university level courses, seminars, documentary production, exhibitions. The first iteration of this program began in 2013, including Duke University students, teachers, staff, and two Dutch visiting artists and two Latin artists from Durham.

From 1990 to 2000, the number of Latin residents in North Carolina increased 400% from approximately 76,000 to 302,000 (According to the 2000 census, Durham was a county without ethnic minorities). Today, the Latin population of North Carolina state has grown to approximately 845,000 inhabitants, accounting for 7% of the state's population; 38,000 of these inhabitants account for about 14% of the Durham population.

In order to visualize this change visually, the Puentes deDobleVía mural painting project transcends a number and uses the voice of the community. The Roman handshake in the center of mural painting symbolizes the community and power. From a long time ago, handshake has always shown relationships and mutual trust between the two. In the interactive bridge project these qualities will be the foundation for building a stronger and more inclusive community beyond Durham. This program provides education, peer communication, and interpersonal relationship opportunities. Through artistic creation, the project achieves the goal of building relationships and communication between members of the unified community.
