The characteristic of Heathcliff is "Darkness is almost the same as that of the devil" (45). In all Wuthering Heights, heath cliff treatment is very poor, mainly in childhood. In any case, Catherine chose to marry Edgerton instead of Heathcliff for social reasons. She got married to him, higher in social ladders, and gained money. Nevertheless, she had good intentions in Heathcliff. He wanted to take advantage of her newly discovered wealth and help him to lift Heathcliff out of the groove. Heathcliff did not know this fact, and she wanted to take revenge on her because she did not love him. She can not marry them, but still both wish to be by her.
