Providing Quality Patient Care

As Florence Nightingale mentioned about our occupation from time ago, work and vigilance are necessary to ensure that we do our best to take care of patients. (Mitchell, 2008) The World Health Organization outlines six high-quality areas that help to form the definition of high quality care.

The primary function of a hospital, clinic or other medical facility is to provide high quality patient care to all patients, whether hospitalized, outpatient or emergency patients. The hospital administration department is legally responsible for the quality of medical services provided to patients. Responsibility for direct patient management and documentation of patient medical records is delegated to doctors, nurses and other health professionals. The accuracy and completeness of this document is the responsibility of the person who records the data.

Patient-centered medical care is becoming one of the standards of high-quality medical treatment in the 21st century. Patient-focused care relies on care providers' compassion for patients, effective communication with patients, and true partnership between patients and patients and focuses on meeting the needs of patients . It is often associated with a comprehensive understanding of the patient's world, including their medical, emotional and life problems. This understanding addresses the concerns of the patients during each encounter, provides the patient with the information they need, and agrees to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of the chronic condition between the patient and the physician. Patient-focused care is designed to enhance the ongoing relationship between patients and their care team members, including patients and physicians. In patient-centered care, the entire care team needs to fully understand patients and adjust the care they provide.
