Biofuels that use relatively new organic resources to supply energy are as long as cars. In fact, the first car used peanut oil. Henry Ford, the founder of a multi-million dollar American automobile company, plans to use ethanol to fuel its highly successful Model T (National Geographic 2013). But this revolutionary idea was wiped out when a lot of oil was found to make gasoline and diesel cheaper. And it's affordable. With the advent of 2014, consumers are beginning to see the amount of oil on the planet decreasing. And their wallet is also the same (Avro 2012). Not only is the burning gas and diesel discharged from the wallet but it also
Biofuels are transportation fuels made from biomass materials such as ethanol and biodiesel. These fuels are usually mixed with petroleum fuels (gasoline and diesel fuel), but they can also be used separately. The use of ethanol or biodiesel means to reduce the burning of gasoline and diesel fuel and it can reduce the amount of crude oil imported from other countries. Ethanol and biodiesel are also cleaner fuels than pure gasoline and diesel fuel. Most of the fuel ethanol used in the United States is distilled from corn. Scientists are studying ways to make ethanol from every part of plants and trees, not just cereals. Farmers are experimenting with rapidly growing woody crops such as poplar and willow and switchgrass and checking whether they can produce ethanol.
There are two types of biofuels: ethanol and biodiesel. The easiest way to distinguish between them is to remember that ethanol is alcohol and biodiesel is oil. Ethanol is an alcohol formed by fermentation and can be used as a substitute or an additive to gasoline produced by extracting natural oil from plants and seeds in a process called transesterification. Biodiesel can be burned with a diesel engine. Biofuels are currently the only alternative to hydrocarbon fuels. As biofuels can be used in existing internal combustion engines, minimal changes to the infrastructure are required for their implementation. As concerns about the environmental impact of fossil fuels are on the rise, this is their most prominent advantage.
