Part I: Developmental studies on management-led HRD programs The first field survey (ABP Pensioenen: Corporate University;) can be characterized as a development study (Van den Akker, 1999). Training and learning activities are designed, developed and implemented based on management-led HRD. As senior management stated, the establishment of a corporate university for ABP Pensioenen is a tool to establish a series of coherent training activities that are carefully derived from the organization's overall strategy and objectives. Data collection includes participatory observations, interviews, document analysis. The main purpose is to gather information about the experience and perception of training activities experienced by management, staff, and trainers before establishing a corporate university or when the university starts operation. Data collection took place from 1997 to 1999

Irina Shaymerdenova recently received a master's degree in comparative and international studies at the Federal Institute of Technology and the University of Zurich in Zurich. Her interest lies in international political economy, globalization and its consequences, attitudes towards the environment and actions. Zhang Haibin is a professor at the Peking University international faculty and is a director of the Peking University Institute for International Organization Research. He received a doctorate. In 1998, he graduated from Beijing University International Relations Department. His main field of research is international environment and climate politics, environmental diplomacy in China, and international institutions. He is a consultant of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic on trade and environmental issues, a member of the Global Agenda Sustainability Committee of the World Economic Forum, and a member of the China National Federation.
