Health information technology brings many potential benefits to individuals, healthcare providers, and national healthcare systems
It has the ability to advance clinical care, improve the health of the population and reduce costs. At the same time, this environment brings new challenges and opportunities to protect health-specific information that can identify individuals.
We developed federal policies and regulations to help protect patient's privacy and to guide national adoption of health information technology.
In this article we will explore the actual impacts and policy implications of federal privacy and security regulations under HIPAA on electronic prescriptions. So far, HIPAA and its regulations are widely known. This is partly because the supplier and health plan were forced to adopt strict compliance efforts. A number of academic and professional reviews are written about HIPAA and its legal requirements (eg Annas 2003; Hussong 2000; see Ridgely and Greenberg 2002). The reader assumes that you are already familiar with the basic HIPAA regulatory program, rather than re-summarizing the full summary of these requirements here, only describing the specific elements of the regulations most relevant to the electronic prescription To do. However, due to the regulation of HIPAA, concern about the future development of the new e-Rx system is rising.
We compiled the HIPAA compliance checklist for 2017 - 2018 by analyzing HIPAA security and privacy rules, HIPAA violation notification rules, HIPAA integration rules, and HIPAA compulsory rules in detail. If you are not sure if you need to comply with these HIPAA regulations, please refer to the HIPAA Explained page. For details on the background of regulation, please visit HIPAA's history page. Our HIPAA compliance checklist is divided into sections of each applicable rule. Even though privacy and security measures are called "addressable", you need to be aware that there are no ratings on HIPAA regulations, but this does not mean they are optional. If your organization is to achieve full HIPAA compliance, it must comply with each standard in the HIPAA compliance checklist.
