Prinz Eugen

Prinz Eugen is a Hipper class cruiser that was launched in 1938 and started on August 1, 1940. The ship moved 18,750 tons, 697 '2 "x 71' 2" x 24 ', 42 officers and 1,340 crew soldiers. Prinz Eugen has 12 Krupp boilers for three Blohm & Voss gear steam turbines with three shafts and a rotating three-blade bronze propeller. The maximum speed is 32 knots. Prince Prinz Eugen is equipped with eight 8-inch cannons in four double turrets, each using 4 inch steel. In July 1946, the United States exploded two nuclear weapons at the German large cruiser Eugen as part of the intersection strategy. You can read the history of "Crossroads Action" here, but BLUF was awarded to the United States by Prince Eugene as war compensation at the end of the Second World War. Prinz Eugen is the last ultra modern large cruiser at Kreigsmarine, symbolizing the top of German naval engineering. In April 1945, with the collapse of Germany, Prince Prinz Eugen headed for Copenhagen in Denmark under the occupation. On 8 May 1945, Germany surrendered. The next day, the starting team of the British Army arrived in Copenhagen and kept Prince Eugen for the UK. As a safety measure, most ships ammunition was eliminated. On May 27, 1945 a group of German seafarers who surrendered and a British naval official took Prinz Eugen from Europe from Copenhagen to Wilhelmshaven under German occupation. Throughout the summer of 1945, the victorious allies discussed ways to distribute the ruins of the German Navy. Brits and Americans were very conscious of Prince Eugen's latest electronic equipment and judged that the Soviet Union never saw it.
