Following the Wales Joint Specification series in January 2015, WJEC released clear demonstration material for Part 1 of Module 1. Given the important role the principal plays in improving schools, the current lack of preparations by the principal is a major issue of policy and practice. In this article, we are seeking new research on leadership development and seeking leadership training training that emphasizes strategic thinking. The authors believe that research does not explain the individual actions of effective leaders, but rather that we must address reasoning as the basis of leadership strategy. This article describes computer simulation designed to facilitate the transition from research to leadership practice. The simulation model requires principals aspiring to use a combination of research based cost and benefit information to select a combination of improvement strategies. The authors discuss their simulation experience and make recommendations for management training and development design and delivery.
