Power in Language: Verbal Communication and Social Influence

Social power significantly changes the behavior of language and communication. However, language and communication also contribute to the creation of power. In the process, authorities can use their power for responsible purposes, but you can also use the benefits of others. Here, it seems that the way an individual interprets (or understands) his power plays a very important role. By providing control and independence, power is interpreted and used as an opportunity to improve your goals and fulfill your responsibilities. In this chapter we conclude that the social context and the words used there decide how to interpret and exercise power. Therefore, from the viewpoint of social psychology we try to outline how the force is related to communication.

Language: This is a way people communicate face to face. Talking, words, speaking, and language are important elements of verbal communication. In the work of social care, verbal communication style is very important as it affects service users. Social workers should speak slowly, clearly and politely. They should be soft when talking. Nonverbal communication: Nonverbal communication can also be used in health and social welfare workplaces. This is a communication process that does not send and receive word messages. Nonverbal communication also includes gestures, facial expressions, body language, use of meaningful symbols, sign language, touch, and sound nuances. This is important because it performs repetition of information by words, adjustment of interactions, supplementation of information by words, and so on.

Unfortunately, the explanation of nonverbal communication is not that simple. As mentioned on our interpersonal page, nonverbal communication is not a language with a fixed meaning. It is influenced and moved by the environment in which it occurs. This includes local stakeholders and culture. Dialogue dialogue is more complex as it is often impossible to interpret gestures and expressions exactly. Nonverbal communication includes a series of expressions, movement of hands and eyes, posture, gestures. It is necessary to explain these along with the speech (verbal communication).

To succeed intercultural communication, we should know the cultural implications of different silences.
