Polystyrene Beads On September 7 th and 14 th 2000, my laboratory partner and I conducted a polystyrene bead molding project. My laboratory partners are Josh Dick, Mike Ward, and Keith Matlock. We did this in the W126 room of Kansas Technology Center. We tried to make polystyrene bead mold in two different ways. Theoretically, bead molding is possible. Theoretical polystyrene bead formation can be carried out in two ways. One method is to fill the mold with 25% to 30% then heat (boil or bake).

EPS (styrofoam) is molded with polystyrene beads and air is heated with a large cone blower like air popcorn. These beads will expand like expanded rice and will have to be joined to a two-piece steam heating type under pressure. Beads stick together by heat and pressure to form strong and lightweight parts. It is the same as injection molding, except that the injection pressure and mold clamping pressure are relatively low. Liquid nitrogen is introduced into the plastic melt. The completed part is filled with small bubbles, it is very strong and light. The platen of this device is up to 15 feet by 5 feet in size and jet size is 150 pounds. That's typical

Have you noticed that "starch" has "granules"? This is because molded polystyrene foam is actually an aggregate of a plurality of small expanded styrene beads. The beads begin to be relatively small but contain a hydrocarbon expander. When steam strikes the beads, the reagents grow beads about 40 times their original size. The beads are then placed in a mold, where it is steam heated again. Here they expand somewhat - and together they create the shape of the negative space of the mold. Hello! Lost form casting is a more reliable and efficient engine block manufacturing technology than raw sand molding. This technique is initiated by wet foaming with wet polystyrene beads placed in the pre-blowing agent to control the size and density of the beads and to form four separate block-formed bodies that are bonded together to form the final mold . Next, preheat the metal tool to remove moisture, then fill the beads. The tool was then heated with steam and placed in an autoclave for producing molds under high pressure in the autoclave. The tool was removed from the autoclave and immersed in water to complete the molded article.
