It is assumed that 80% of garbage comes from land and 20% comes from the ocean. Theoretically, the waste from the west coast of North America flows into the center of the vortex in about 5 years and flows in from the East Coast of Asia within one year. When the plastic reaches the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it is divided finely under the influence of the sun and seawater. Therefore, a garbage patch is an erroneous representation of a plastic island that can walk.

It is a well-known difficulty to follow the input and distribution of marine plastic in the ocean. As we have seen throughout the article there is a big difference between the annual input of plastic and ocean and the estimate of surface plasticity accumulation. The annual estimate of marine plastic input is up to 10 million tons; at the same time, the total surface plasticity accumulation is between 10 and 100 kiloton (lower or higher digits) 23, 24, 25, 26.
