Under the guidance and supervision of physical therapists, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapists Assistants (PTA) are the only providers of physical therapy services. In many clinical settings, physiotherapists rely on PTA to allow all patients / clients to use physiotherapy services. Physical therapy has a long history of restoring an individual to its highest level body function, and in many cases patients are sent to physical therapy rather than surgery. Patients / customers value individual "practice" approaches to physical therapy treatment. The terms "physiotherapist's assistant" and "physiotherapy assistant or technician" are not synonyms.
