Peter Lombard (around 1095 - 1160) Theologian and author Peter Lombard was born in the northern part of Italy between 1095 and 1110 in his Centennir 's famous libris distinctae (The Book of Sentences) . Lombard started working on his formal education at the St. Mary's Cathedral School in Novara to continue his research at Lucca, then traveled to France in 1133. Three years later, under the recommendation of Saint Bernard, Lombard was sponsored to keep studying in Paris. By 1144 Lombard was recognized as an outstanding theologian in Paris. According to the record he was appointed to the Notre Dame Cathedral in 1145 and joined the Rheims committee in 1148. He became a semi-bishop in 1156 and became a bishop in Paris in 1159. His dominance as a bishop lasted more than a year. Maurice de Chrye replaced him. Most scholars believe that this sudden change indicates his sudden death in July 1160.
In the autumn of 1302, he began teaching Peter Lombard 's "sentences" in Paris (a series of views on a passage of the Bible often used as a starting point for discussion among medieval scholars). However, in the second half of the school year, he was expelled from the university (and some other papal) by the taxation of the property of the church and Pope Boniface 8 and France Phillip Fair (King Phillip IV). He spent most of his time in Oxford (or Cambridge), where he may have taught William of Ockham. However, he returned to Paris before the end of 1304 (after the death of Pope Boniface, the new Pope Benedict XI reconciled with Philip)
