Personal Statement

The past may open the way to the future, but the dream has created the direction that it brings. When I was a child, I experienced a painful ear infection, which caused deafness when I was 2 years old. After surgery, my hearing has recovered, but I do not know what to say. I have spoken language therapy for many years. Because I am hard to speak except colleagues, the teacher put me on the pedestal and used my work as a standard for others. Often I am away from my classmates. Adversity of my life made me feel stronger and made me realize my wish to work as a pharmacist in the medical field.

A few weeks ago, I tutor taught a student who came to me with her personal statement at a dental school. Born in Pakistan, she lived there for a lifetime and recently moved to America with her family. In her personal statement she did not mention about her cultural background or ethnicity. After finishing this article, she told me about her growth experience and recent move to the USA. When I was asked to 'play' the fact that I was an Egyptian, I noticed that I was taking some unfavorable factors to show what I accomplished, In terms it is unfair. As a minority, it is unfair to expect that I have some painful background stories, which is unfair for those who actually have trauma in their lives.
