The periodic table is a way to list elements. Elements are listed in the table by atomic structure. This includes the number of protons in the outer shell and the number of electrons. From left to right, from top to bottom, the elements are ordered by their atomic number, atomic number is the number of protons of each atom

Elements are arranged periodically, so they are called "periodic". The elements from left to right line up based on their atomic numbers (the number of protons in their nuclei). We skip several columns so that elements with the same number of valence electrons line up in the same row. If so arranged, the elements of the column have similar properties.

Each horizontal line in the table is a period. There are a total of 7 (or 8) periods. The first one is short and there are only two elements, hydrogen and helium. The sixth step has 32 elements.
