This course covers the basic elements of cell biology and can be used instead of Biology 303 to meet the requirements of biology professionals' cell biology. In particular, the course emphasizes the role of cell membrane and signaling mechanisms in regulating normal cell function. The diversity of cell signaling will be explained by studying various strategies for mediating physiological changes in single cells and potential organisms. Cell communication is important for cell survival and adaptation. This is a field of biological research including biochemistry, cell biology / physiology and membrane biophysics - all of which will be emphasized by literature reviews and seminars. It fulfills the main requirement of lecture molecular biology / cell biology three times a week. Prerequisites: Biology 111, Chemistry 245, or instructor's consent

Molecular biology is a biological study at the molecular level. This field overlaps with other fields of biology and chemistry, especially genetics and biochemistry. Cell biology studies cellular properties including cellular physiological properties, structure, intercellular organelle, interaction with the environment, life cycle, division and death. Molecular biology and cell biology are interrelated, as most of the properties and functions of cells can be described at the molecular level. Molecular biology and cell biology involve many fields of biology, including biotechnology, developmental biology, physiology, genetics, and microbiology.
