Pearl: Judge and Jury of the Puritanically Repressed

Readers of "Red Letter" believe that pearls are her mother's sinful marital affair. After all, Hester decorated her in the same way as a notorious letter. But at the end of the book, Hawthorne revealed another reason behind the explanation of his pearl through the last moment of the pastor Ding Messada: "The pearl kissed his lips. When the tears fell on her father's cheeks, they promise that she will grow in human joy and sorrow, and she also does not always fight the world but become a woman.

In his novel "Scarlet Letter", he depicts the life of a young girl's pearl. Initially, Pearl's mother, Hester Prinee, married Roger Chillingworth, but she soon met Puritan pastor Arthur Ding Mesdale, and that pearl turned out after nine months. The Puritan society forced Hester to get her to wear scarlet and gold "A" on his chest to remind her of the crime - affair. From the viewpoint of society, the pearl reminds us of Hester's sin and makes the pearl a living red letter.

This is a particularly problematic issue especially for The Scarlet Letter. Let's see the pearl of Hester's daughter. Puritan thought of her as an illegal and sinful product of informal marriage. But she is all the symbol that Hester sacrificed in this Puritan Hell. Pearl is one of the reasons Hester is hopeless. Pearls are preferred, helping to free Hester from persecution. And Ding Mesdale experienced a magical act of shifting somehow to the soul of the pearl. But the resentment of pearls to Puritans is reasonable, and the children are often torturing her for no reason. When Hester and Pearl entered the town, the Puritan children continued to play around the pearl, stare at her, and throw mud on unhappy couple. The two actions of Puritan made the pearl angry. One reason why Puritan treated pearl seriously was due to her mother's sin. Puritan believed that she was naturally evil and corrupted because pearls are the result of adultery. Puritan hated the pearl, because she was as pretty as Hester 's red, and to a certain extent crushed both. Scarlet "A" of Hester is said to be a punishment, but she is embroidered richly and wears with subtle pride. When Puritan first saw "A" they wanted to replace it with "A" made from rheumatic cloth.
