Peace on the Streets: Analysis of Altruism and Egoism in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead

The ultimate motivation of altruists and egoists is personal interest. Dividing these two ideologies is a way to achieve this goal. For altruists it is said that solving human needs is the sole purpose of existence. On the other hand, if the action does not directly benefit, the egoist will refuse to take action. In The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand explains the role of altruist and egoist in society through role development. In particular, the four characters Catherine Hulsey, Peter Keating, and Ellsworth clearly show the attributes of altruism and egoist.

Ian Land promoted her objective philosophy through her "source", a novel Howard rock hero is considered an embodiment of her ideal. Ian Land is a famous novelist and philosopher who insists individualism rather than altruism collectivism and self-interest. She will keep all the power that might weaken it. Ain wrote several popular novels. Some of them are shrugging the national anthem, fountain's head and Atlas's shoulder. She defended her view on God and led her to believe that it weakened her to an atheist (Smith, 1991, pp. 30-35). Ain established the philosophical movement of objectiveism.
