Veterans of foreign war believe in good citizenship and nurture patriotism. That is why we encourage young people to examine our country's history and their experiences in contemporary American society through our patriot Penn Young Paper Writing Competition. Approximately 112,000 students from the 6th grade to the 8th grade each year receive the total of 1.2 million dollars award and are the first tourists to receive the full amount in Washington, DC.
Students drafted 300-400 words articles chosen according to the annual theme to express their views - the highest commander of VFW - always patriotic.

The patriot's pen is an essay writing competition sponsored by a VFW (Patriotic theme strong theme). It is open to American students from 6th grade to 8th grade.
