Patient Report

When asked about surgical interventions on her back, the patient said "I have no insurance, so I can not perform any back surgery." The patient reported family history of hypertension, anxiety and depression at the mother's side. She also sucks 1 pack a day for 10 years but reported to quit smoking 15 years ago

Annals' report reports part of the MedSeq project, which is following 10 primary care physicians and 100 commonly healthy middle-aged patients. Half of the patients received a family history of genetic disease risk, the other half received family history reports and individualized whole genome sequencing reports. This is the first randomized study to study the effect of whole genome sequencing on patients with surface health conditions. Of the healthy MedSeq project participants on the surface of 50 people who underwent whole genome sequencing, we presumed that only one or two of their reports had genetic damage. However, to my surprise, I learned that 11 out of 50 participants (22%) have genetic risk variability of rare monogenic diseases. There are some warnings in the results, especially small samples, but the fact remains that this is certainly higher than we expected.
