Paratextual Features and Functions: Mapping Amorphis Tales from the Thousand Lakes

As a literary theorist Gerard Genette believes, the concept of adverb as "threshold" was originally used to analyze books. However, recently, researchers have applied this knowledge to various media. Birke and Christ (2013) studied the role of para - text in DVD cases and digital literature. They propose that Para - text has three main functions: interpretation, business and navigation. In this chapter, I will explore the paratext function in the booklet of Millennium Lake Story by the Finnish folk metal band Amorphis, using the functions of Birke and Christ.

Mapbox is basically an open source alternative to the Google Maps API. We focus on customization and support creation of interactive functions. This includes hundreds of maps, if not thousands (altitude, heat map, weather charts, all kinds of data that are basically geographically displayed), and animation and functions for real time updating included.

At the center of the map is a picture of the space region of the earth. Different maps have different functions. The most basic map shows the physical characteristics of the area from the world map representing the country to the detailed walking map of each pass within the university campus. Other types of maps, such as continental maps encoded according to the language used or the main exit color, or hierarchical maps showing relative altitude of mountains, can provide additional data about that area. Although the building contractor may be using these tools and you may have seen that your car is jammed, geographers have to do the same task for their work I will use them. The easiest to distinguish is the theodolite which is useful for measuring relative distance and height. The geographer will examine the details of the area exactly by combining theodolite with the vertical line and the tape measure.

Characteristics of the map are visualized using a map which is an actual expression. Size and scale affect the degree of generalization of the features being mapped. The smaller the ratio, the less detail will be displayed. In other words, a small scale displays a wider geographic area (such as a map of the world or a map of the continent), but does not display more general functions and details (such as major highways and major rivers only). In larger maps, smaller geographical areas (such as cities and community maps) are displayed, but details are displayed (such as the entire road network or all branches of the river).
