Paraguay and Uruguay´s Independence

In the 1500s, the current country of Paraguay and Uruguay was a colony. Paraguay became independent on May 14, 1811, Uruguay became independent on August 25, 1825. But the way these two countries are independent is quite different. In the most destructive war in South America, the war in three allies struck Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil to Paraguay. At the end of 1864, when Uruguay was hit by Brazil and Argentina, Paraguay attacked Brazil by aid. Ironically, Uruguay was another president then, changed its position and opposed his predecessors. By the end of the war, hundreds of thousands of people died, Paraguay was ruined. This country will take decades to recover. In 1879, Chile and Bolivia began war after decades of border conflict. Peru, which has established a military alliance with Bolivia, is also involved in the war. After a series of big fights at sea and land, Chileans triumph. By 1881 the Chilean army occupied Lima and by 1884 Bolivia signed a ceasefire. As a result of this war, Chile acquired the controversial coastal zone once, brought Bolivia to landlocked country and acquired Arica from Peru.

Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and so on, most colonies in the south are engaged in an independent war with the Spanish army. In these wars, the leadership of Jose de Saint Martin, known as the liberator of Argentina, played an important role in the independence of these colonies.
