In order to provide patients with the highest quality care, they need to be culturally competent nurses (American College of Nursing Association [AACN], 2008, ΒΆ 2). I used the heritage assessment tool as a guide to interview three families. The first is my own Russian heritage, the second one is a colleague with a strong Chinese tradition, and the third one is a young single mother with a Hispanic heritage. Culturally competent nurses must have the following four aspects: (1) your own personal legacy (found through heritage assessment tools), (2) heritage of nursing professionals, And (3) heritage of the health system. People with the same values, religious or ethnic background, the type of foods the patient prepares, and the mother tongue of the patient
