Potlatch, Lewiston, Idaho and OSHA have agreed to establish a strategic partnership to improve the safety and health of workers in the logging industry

Regional director of OSHA in Idaho Ryan Kuehmichel and Mike McAllister from Potlatch signed a contract yesterday at a ceremony at Potlatch's office.

Potlatch is the first Idaho Forest landowner who signed a logging cooperation agreement with OSHA

The Logging Partnership Program aims to reduce the risk of government and timber industry efforts by ensuring that contract recorders have effective safety plans

Richard Orill, OSHA regional administrator at Seattle, says:

According to Mr. Terlat, Potlatch has the most effective management oversight of contract recorders in this area and establishes an effective policy to deal with noncompliant contractors.

Hazards are also documented and corrected as soon as they are discovered. We also encourage the participation of contract employees by allowing contract workers to participate in security conferences and on-site inspections.

OSHA said it would consider a partnership with other industrial forest owners who developed policies and processes to improve the safety of logging of contract workers.
