Howard Jin is one of the most famous people among the New Left historians. He is a controversial figure widely recognized in his 1980 works "History of Americans". In this book, Jin believes America's history is characterized mainly by the exploitation of weak people by good people. Progressive schools tend to be characterized by class conflict. This historical view peaked between 1910 and 1940. Progressive historians emphasize the conflict between 'strong elite' and 'people'. Charles A. Beard is probably the most famous progressive historian. Arthur M. Schlesinger Sr. is another popular progressive historian. The Jackson era is still his most famous work.
