In the whole world of history, oppression coexists with human beings. Just like war, it is embedded in culture and is inseparable from the nature of man. Like the war, human beings are eager to fight it and transcend all unity. The struggle against oppression can be seen in all classrooms, workplaces, countries, races and so on. Many people stand up from the masses and advocate peace for everyone. They represent people who can not stand up on their own and therefore are responsible for improving the lives of millions of people.
But the most potential threat is when these two forms of tyranny become together. When you have a government that has enthusiastic support and active participation from numerous citizens, please implement a repressive policy. A better example than Jim Crow in American history? Peaceful citizen's disobedience certainly played a role but it monopolized the history unfairly to a certain extent. Active armed resistance is general and important. I recommend you read this book.
Today's democracy is designed to allow citizens to actively participate in political processes without censorship or repression. As far as America is concerned, after the American Revolutionary War there was a strong dissatisfaction with tyranny and hegemonic governments. The Constitution of the United States establishes the checking and balancing mechanism of power, the people are elected representatives, I think these representatives can best reflect their interests in Congress. Before the emergence of modern technology, this made sense before the Internet, telephone or commercial power supply. The elected officials arrived in Washington and had to ride a few days to vote for the law. There is no practical way, and all citizens who wish to join the government can go to the same place at the same time; representatives are solutions. Politicians do a predetermined length, and if their ingredients are needed they can be replaced, but the term lasts a few years.
Among the various levels of government, local governments are very close to the place to live and therefore have the most direct impact on people's lives. It is easier for citizens to participate directly by local governments, as officials to whom they are elected can be used immediately. This means that as a county councilor you must ensure that you have access to the voters. It also means people's immediate problems, such as tidying up grooves and filling in recesses, and dealing with big problems within the county.
