Opium Trade in China

From the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century, China and the outside world had a very strict and protectiveistic trade policy. So what is the reason for opium trade with China? First, the origins of British opium trade between India and China brought about the growth of opium use in China. In the spring of 1839, the Chinese government seized and destroyed more than 20,000 boxes of opium (about 1,400 tons of narcotics) kept by British businessmen in Guangzhou (Guangzhou). In July, when several drunk British crewmen killed Chinese villagers, the conflict between the two increased. The British government refuses to move the accused to the Chinese court because the Chinese law does not want that subject to be heard.
