Online Chemistry Lab Manual

The Chemical Laboratory at Santa Monica College offers students the opportunity to introduce experiments, exploring important chemical concepts, and introducing appropriate laboratory techniques and safety.

This online lab manual was created by the chemical department of SMC. As long as SMC is accepted and laboratories are not sold for commercial purposes, other institutions wanting to use our lab can do the same.

In the distance learning bachelor degree program, students can complete basic engineering courses online, but may need to visit the campus for hands-on laboratory. For example, online geology, chemistry, and technical drawing courses may be required to obtain an online civil engineering degree. Students come to campus during the summer and complete experiments on material engineering, soil, circuit analysis and manufacturing process. Bachelor's degree in engineering is usually enough to enter entry level positions in the candidate's engineering field. The new graduate competes with the master's degree acquirer and career development varies greatly depending on the focus of career. One day, a graduate who wishes to provide direct service in general needs to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license which requires several years of professional experience and passing of PE exam.
