The objective of this study was to study the problems related to the production of olive oil and marketing practices carried out by Minerva S.A., a major participant in the Greek olive oil market. Therefore, I analyzed the company's target market and competition, conducted SWOT analysis and proposed a marketing mix. The marketing method that the company carries out is compared with the marketing method of other companies in the international market. The world's major olive oil producer is the European Union (EU), which produces 80% of the world's total olive oil production (USC, 2007). Italy and Spain are major producers that can affect the price of olive oil, for example dry weather in southern Spain in 2005 resulted in reduced production and associated price rise. In contrast, heavy rain, increased production, and price declines were seen in 2006 (Minerva, 2006).
Olive trees flourish in the Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summer and cool winter. Spain is over 300 million olive trees, the world's largest producer of olive oil, accounting for 44% of the world market. Many Spanish olive oils are shipped to Italy, each shipped for consumption and repackaged as Italian olive oil in overseas markets.
