Every year, thousands of Oklahoma students encourage state-wide teachers and are participating in the Oklahoma National History Day (OkNHD) program. OkNHD is part of National History Day and is a highly acclaimed academic program for students from 6th grade to 12th grade. More than 500,000 students participate each year. Students select historical topics related to that topic and conduct extensive primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums and historical sites. After analyzing and interpreting the sources, students will draw conclusions about the importance of their subject matter in history before presenting their work to original papers, exhibitions, performances, websites and documentaries. The student program competes in the region, the state, and the national competition in the spring and is evaluated by specialist historians and educators. A student in Oklahoma State will participate in the state finals every May
