Lenny ran away, but when they came back to find Corrie's wife dead, George was forced to kill his friends. The four people responsible for Lenny 's death are George, Curry' s wife, Renee and Curly.

George is the most responsible person of Lenny 's death. This is why George shoots Rennie at the end of the book.
