Occupational safety and health in construction: a review of applications and trends

In the initial search, 285 articles were selected from 32 journals or programs. The journal selected during the time period is displayed in the table. As can be seen, the number of papers has increased recently: Between 2001 and 2010, a total of 129 papers on occupational safety and health in the construction industry were announced. This corresponds to 45.3% of all articles. Likewise, a total of 57 papers were published between 2011 and 2016. Although this period is short, we can see that the number of published papers is larger than before 2001. Journal of construction engineering and management is the most selected article followed by a journal of safety science and international project management.

The selected articles according to the topic are displayed in Table 2 and the absolute value and the relative value are shown. Risk assessment is the most popular topic, and it is published in 35.4% of papers. Both accident analysis and risk prevention achieve over 20% share

Surprisingly, many papers on regulation are not found in the company's view (corporate policy) or public opinion (standards and standards). Probably because there are articles that contain regulations as well as other occupational safety and health methods, so they are classified as other steps of the cycle, mainly risk assessment or risk prevention. In our research we provide new formats and tools for risk assessment and observe how research influences the development of regulations by implementing precautionary measures in the workplace. Analytical papers evaluate the results achieved and present countermeasures to ascertain whether regulations are being implemented and whether the goal of creating regulations has been achieved.

It is no coincidence that researchers rarely receive education and training. Pietroforte and Stefani discovered that only 8% of the papers published in the Journal of Architectural Engineering and Management between 1983 and 2000 are related to education and professional development. Since there are very few articles in these two steps, there are no research trends on regulation and education and training. Safety culture and safe climate are new elements and publications are rare. The Indian government is taking several initiatives, but they are still in the early stages and need to be executed.
