On the estimation of employment and wages in the country, state, metropolitan area and non-urban areas in May 2017

These estimates are based on data collected by all industries, all metropolitan areas and non metropolitan areas, and employers of all states and the District of Columbia. The data on the maximum employment rate and salary are as indicated above. The complete list is in a downloadable XLS file.

The salary estimate rate is the wage value below a certain percentage of workers. The average wage is an estimate of the 50th percentile salary - 50% of workers earn below the median, 50% of the workers earn above the median. Details of wage rate

(1) Estimates of detailed occupations are not included in the total as occupations not included in individual indications are included. Self-employed persons are not included in the estimate

(2) The annual salary is calculated by multiplying the hourly average wage by the "full year full-time" of 2,080 hours, and for occupations not announcing hourly salary, the annual salary is calculated directly from the reported survey data .

(3) The relative standard error (RSE) is a measure of the reliability of the survey statistics. The smaller the relative standard error, the more accurate the estimate will be.

(9) Location index is the ratio of occupational employment area concentration to national average concentration. A position index greater than 1 indicates that the employment rate is higher than the average, and a position index less than 1 indicates that the occupancy rate of the region is lower than the average.

According to the Employment Statistics Survey of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, wages for almost all of these occupations were higher than the overall median in May 2014. (See Table 1) However, these estimates do not include wages of self-employed persons, and their income may differ significantly from overall wages and salary workers. Wages vary by geographical location and workers in some metropolitan areas are generally higher than other cities. For example, the average salary for graphic designers in the San Francisco metropolitan area is $ 74,930, and the average annual salary for graphic designers in the Chicago metropolitan area is $ 49,110.

The data in this paper is from the BLS Survey of Occupational Employment Statistics (OES). This semi-annual mail survey measures employment and wages of wage workers at nonagricultural facilities. OES estimates are based on samples from approximately 1.2 million US companies, with sample frames in state and metropolitan areas. The OES survey provides the most comprehensive data on occupational wages nationwide. (Please refer to Technical Note.)
