Psychiatric or behavioral health nurses specialize in patients undergoing various psychiatric diseases, poisoning, eating disorders or drug abuse therapies. People with psychiatric disorders need many emotional support, education and treatment of skilled mental health professionals. Cooperating with patients and interdisciplinary teams (including case managers and social workers) to evaluate and provide a safe hospital discharge environment is an important part of the psychiatric nurse's daily work. This profession is suitable for endurance and kind nurse, but I am not afraid to set some boundaries as necessary.
As a member of the psychiatric treatment team, psychiatric nurses first interview new patients and understand their mental health history, symptoms and lifestyle. Psychiatric nurses can then help psychiatrists and other physicians develop detailed treatment plans to provide comprehensive mental health services that patients need. During treatment, psychiatric nurses can provide support counseling to support daily work such as grooming, providing medicine, and promoting understanding of family mental illness. Sometimes psychiatric nurses respond to unquestioned patients in a non-threatening way and must use downgrade techniques to help patients manage their anger. Some psychiatric nurses can organize social activities for patients to connect and develop social skills to speed up recovery
Patient monitoring is another very important responsibility of psychiatric nurse. Progression and behavior of each patient needs to be closely monitored to ensure that their treatment plan and treatment are effective. Psychiatric nurses are usually responsible for reporting changes to psychiatrists and may suggest alternative treatment options. Because some patients are spiritually or mentally unstable, psychiatric nurses must also prepare to participate in crisis intervention. Patients with extreme depression or psychiatric disorders may require crisis intervention as well as suicide patients. These interventions should be made as soon as possible to minimize physical and psychological trauma.
